About the job

Speechify is looking for a Software Engineer to join the AI Data team and help build the data foundation for its revolutionary text-to-speech product. In this remote role, you will own projects end-to-end, from discovering new data sources to building large-scale processing systems that support AI model development. You will collaborate closely with AI scientists and have a direct impact on the quality and performance of the models that power Speechify's life-changing technology.

What you will do

  • Discover new audio data sources and build pipelines to add them to training datasets
  • Build and improve large-scale data-processing systems for quality, throughput, and cost
  • Collaborate with AI scientists to improve training datasets and support model development
  • Own engineering projects from problem discovery through implementation and continuous improvement

What you bring

  • Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong backend fundamentals
  • Proficiency in Python and Bash in Linux environments
  • Experience building and operating production systems, ideally data pipelines or large-scale data processing
  • Strong problem-solving skills, initiative, and ability to work independently in ambiguous environments

Nice to have

  • Experience with web crawlers, data acquisition, or distributed data-processing systems
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure and Infrastructure as Code, particularly GCP and Terraform
  • Familiarity with ML training data, dataset quality, or audio processing
