Intelic is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to design and build a platform in Rust. You will define APIs for hardware integration and enable others to add new devices independently. This hybrid role is based in Amsterdam.
What you will do
- Design and build the platform in Rust
- Define APIs for integrating cameras, gimbals, servos and other hardware
- Enable others to write their own drivers and add hardware without team support
- Plan how new modules fit into the wider system and anticipate future cases
- Write strong unit tests and add integration tests, including against simulated hardware
- Work with other teams to understand needs and agree on system interfaces
What you bring
- Around five or more years of engineering experience in a heavy backend language (Rust ideal, C++ or similar)
- Experience building platforms or APIs that other teams depend on
- Ability to work independently and see problems through
- Good communication skills, proactive in reaching out to other teams
- Serious about testing, especially code that talks to hardware
- Uses AI coding tools like Claude in daily work
Nice to have
- Basic hardware knowledge: powering a camera and getting video out
- Experience with drones, robotics or other connected hardware
