About the job
Stream is looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to drive AI model development from dataset design through production deployment. In this role, you will own the full lifecycle of model development, set technical direction for novel problems, and collaborate with Go-based API and infrastructure teams.
What you will do
- Own model development from dataset design to production deployment
- Run supervised fine-tuning and post-training experiments with benchmarks
- Build and maintain data pipelines for training and evaluation
- Take models to production on serving stack, tuning for latency and cost
- Set technical direction for undefined problem space
- Interface with Go-based API teams and infrastructure
What you bring
- 5+ years production-level Python engineering experience
- Hands-on machine learning with supervised fine-tuning and post-training
- Familiarity with modern fine-tuning and serving toolchain
- Cloud experience with GCP or AWS and Terraform
- Experience running ML-based products in production
- Experience designing and operating data pipelines for training and evaluation
Nice to have
- Visible open-source footprint with libraries or contributions
- Experience with Go
- Deep understanding of Python concurrency and asyncio
- Experience with real-time or low-latency inference systems
- Experience as early engineer or founder at startup pace
