Mollie is looking for an Application Engineer II to design, build, and maintain high-scale backend systems and APIs in Amsterdam. You will take end-to-end ownership of features from architecture to production support and contribute to migration and modernization initiatives.

What you will do

Design, build, and maintain high-scale backend systems and APIs
Take end-to-end ownership of features from architecture to production support
Contribute to migration and modernization initiatives
Transform complex requirements into production-ready solutions
Participate in agile ceremonies like brainstorming and sprint planning
Identify and resolve complex issues in distributed systems

What you bring

5+ years of backend engineering experience
Strong proficiency in Java
Experience building large-scale, high-volume systems
Understanding of distributed systems, queuing, caching, concurrency, fault tolerance, and scalability
End-to-end ownership mindset
Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders

Nice to have

Exposure to PHP
Experience with Go, C#, or Python
Background in financial systems, payments, or data-intensive applications
