You will own backend systems for Chat or Activity Feeds at Stream, a company building developer tools for real-time experiences. Based in Amsterdam, the role involves hands-on coding, database work, and shipping to production within your first weeks.
What you will do
- Own backend systems for Chat or Activity Feeds
- Write code and work with databases
- Spend about 80% of time on hands-on work
- Ship to production in first weeks
- Own a meaningful area within first months
What you bring
- Extensive backend engineering experience with technical leadership in production
- Proficiency in Go, Python, or another backend language with willingness to switch to Go
- Experience building features for large user bases and scaling them
- Strong experience with a relational database
- Hands-on experience with Redis or similar in-memory data store
- Experience building public APIs or SDKs for other developers
Nice to have
- PostgreSQL in production at scale with sharding, partitioning, or large migrations
- Experience improving or redesigning legacy systems serving live traffic
- Go and gRPC in production at high request rates
- Messaging, feeds, real-time systems, or message queues like RabbitMQ or Kafka
- Distributed storage internals such as Raft or RocksDB
- Experience cutting infrastructure cost or running workloads on GCP or AWS
