About the job

Airwallex is seeking a Senior Director EU & ME, MLRO to lead and scale its EMEA regional compliance architecture. You will serve as the primary regulatory liaison for central banks and financial authorities across the region.

What you will do

  • Lead and scale the EMEA regional compliance architecture
  • Serve as primary regulatory liaison for EMEA central banks and financial authorities
  • Oversee local financial crime operations and reporting workflows
  • Monitor regional AML/CFT and sanctions regulatory developments
  • Provide compliance sign-off on high-risk decisions and escalations
  • Advise on product requirements, acceptable use policies, and license applications

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Criminology, Public Policy, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
  • CAMS certification or equivalent global compliance credential
  • 12 to 15+ years in AML, Sanctions, and Financial Crime Compliance in financial services, fintech, payments, or banking
  • 5+ years senior leadership managing decentralized multi-jurisdictional compliance teams or serving as registered MLRO in Europe or UK
  • Proven track record interacting with regional regulators like FCA, DNB, Bank of Lithuania
  • Experience providing compliance advisory on product rollouts, licensing strategies, and customer use cases in a matrixed environment

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree such as JD, LLM, or Master’s in Regulatory Compliance or Financial Crime
  • Personal experience holding senior regulatory compliance officer status like FCA SMF17 or equivalent across major EMEA jurisdictions
  • Deep fintech and payments experience with EMIs, virtual accounts, multi-currency wallets, and cross-border payments
  • Experience partnering with Product, Risk, and Commercial teams for high-velocity feature launches
  • Data literacy using operational metrics, GRC systems, and dashboards
